Healthy Home and Family And Toxic Threats – What To Do

I am a concerned mother and I thought everyone should know that a lot of very harmful chemicals have found their way into our common household products. Apparently, the FDA claims that they only monitor foods and drugs (not household cleaners and other household items) as stated in their name, Food and Drug Administration. So guess who is left monitoring non-food and drug items? You go it, no one. So it is up to us, the consumer to check these things out for ourselves, like we do not have enough to do without this. Hard to believe? Do you have any Johnson and Johnson baby wash lying around? It contains Quaternium-15, a formaldehyde-releasing preservative. You go it, the stuff they use to preserve dead bodies. Well, it is not so healthy for live bodies either.

Actually, it is a known and proven cancer causing agent, a carcinogen, and it becomes a gas that stays in the air of our homes, so that all our dearest loved ones and our selves can breathe it in. I am not just talking about one manufacturing company; they all have not so well known ingredients and surprise toxins. I am not saying I blame them either. They want to make money and these chemicals are known to achieve the goals of the product and they are cheap to produce. But that does not mean that I want to use them to poison MY family. The EPA says that indoor pollution is two to five times worse than outdoor pollution. It is therefore not hard to understand how a 15 year study found women that stay at home are 54% more likely too die of cancer than those that go out of the house (for a job, for example).

We do not even realize what kinds of poisons we are bringing into our homes. I have decided for myself to get all these toxins out of my home but I do not have time to check out every product and each of its individual ingredients. What is needed is a trustworthy green company that is manufacturing wellness products that are not killing us, our family, the environment, and the world. But things also need to be affordable. I found one company that looks pretty good. I now use these products. I have done a lot of research and have not been able to find better products anywhere. If I do find better products, I will use them instead. I will list the link in the Author section, in accordance with the rules of this site.

LIGHTSIDE

A man walking on a side street in Vancouver stumbled across an
old lamp. He picked it up, rubbed it, and out popped a genie.
The genie said, “OK, You released me but I am old, getting tired
Of granting 3 wishes…..you can only get one wish!”

The man said, “I have always wanted to go to Hawaii, but I am to
scared to fly, and I get very seasick. Could you build me a
bridge to Hawaii so I can drive over there to visit?”
The genie laughed and said, “That’s impossible!! Think of the
logistics of that! The supports, concrete, steel!! No, think of another wish..”

So the man said, “I have been married and divorced four times.
My wives always said that I don’t care and that I am
insensitive. I wish that I could understand women, know how they feel
inside, and what they’re thinking when they give me the silent
treatment. Know why they’re crying, know what they really want when
they say “nothing”, know how to make them truly happy.”
The genie said, “Do you want that bridge to be two lanes or four?”

FOOD TIPS, INFORMATION

One of the best vegetables you can eat is a sweet potato. They are loaded with vitamin A, carotenoids, vitamin C, potassium and fibre. You can bake and then mix in crushed pineapple for sweetness.

Tomatoes are also packed with vitamin A, fibre.

Wild salmon is great for your health. Salmon that is caught wild has less PCB then farmed salmon. Salmon is high in heart healthy omega-3 fatty acids. Smoking or pickling salmon reduces the amount by about 75%.

Conventionally grown produce is coated with tiny amounts of pesticide residues. Apples, bell peppers, cucumbers, Peaches, pears could be trapped under a layer of wax. For safety, more so with children and older persons, you should scrub them in a highly diluted solution of liquid dish detergent, which removes most of the pesticides and wax. Or you could peel it, especially apples, peaches, and pears. Organic produce should still be washed to remove other contaminants.

Beans are inexpensive, low in fat, rich in protein, iron, folic and fibre.

Bananas contain vitamin B6, vitamin C, and potassium.

Take Note: The food and drug administration estimate that 1 in 20,000 eggs contain salmonella bacteria. Look for pasteurized eggs, which are flash-heated to destroy any bacteria. Persons with impaired immunity, pregnant women, infants, and older persons are at increased risk of severe complications. Other persons can decide for themselves whether the risk warrants giving up runny yolks or unpasteurised eggs, high risks persons should take those precautions.

POWER OUTAGES

“Power outages can occur at any time of the year and it often takes from a few hours to several days for electricity to be restored to residential areas,” said USDA Under Secretary for Food Safety Dr. Richard Raymond. “Foods stored in freezers and refrigerators can become unsafe in just a few hours if bacteria begin to grow and if these foods are consumed, people can become very sick.”

Steps to follow to prepare for a possible weather emergency:

Store food on shelves that will be safely out of the way of contaminated water in case of flooding.

Have coolers on hand to keep refrigerator food cold if the power will be out for more than four hours. Purchase or make ice cubes and store in the freezer for use in the refrigerator or in a cooler. Freeze gel packs ahead of time for use in coolers.

Group food together in the freezer – this helps the food stay cold longer.

Steps to follow after the weather emergency:

Keep the refrigerator and freezer doors closed as much as possible to maintain the cold temperature.

The refrigerator will keep food safely cold for about 4 hours if it is unopened. A full freezer will hold the

temperature for approximately 48 hours (24 hours if it is half full and the door remains closed.)

Food may be safely refrozen if it still contains ice crystals or is at 40° F or below.

Never taste a food to determine its safety!

Obtain dry or block ice to keep your refrigerator and freezer as cold as possible if the power is going to be out for a prolonged period of time. Fifty pounds of dry ice should hold an 18-cubic-foot full freezer for 2 days.

If the power has been out for several days, check the temperature of the freezer with an appliance thermometer or food thermometer. If the food still contains ice crystals or is at 40° F or below, the food is safe.

If a thermometer has not been kept in the freezer, check each package of food to determine its safety. If the food still contains ice crystals, the food is safe.

Discard refrigerated perishable food such as meat, poultry, fish, soft cheeses, milk, eggs, leftovers and deli items after 4 hours without power.

Drink only bottled water if flooding has occurred.

Discard all food that came in contact with floodwaters including canned goods. Discard wooden cutting boards, plastic utensils, baby bottle nipples and pacifiers.

Thoroughly wash all metal pans, ceramic dishes and utensils that came in contact with flood water with hot soapy water and sanitize by boiling them in clean water or by immersing them for 15 minutes in a solution of 1 tablespoon of unscented, liquid chlorine bleach per gallon of drinking water.

When in Doubt, Throw it Out!

Fresh Fruit Punch

8 ounces apiece of orange juice, pineapple juice, and grapefruit
juice.

1 bottle ginger ale. Sugar to taste.

Combine the juices with the sugar. Stir until the sugar is
dissolved and refrigerate. Add the ginger ale plus chunks of ice before serving.

Is The Diet Drug For You?

The industry for individuals who are looking to consuming a diet drug is a popular one, with a vast range of different drugs available. The diet drug works by sending messages to the brain that your stomach is feeling full, thus increasing the metabolic rate to burn off the food that you have supposedly consumed. With the many different varieties of diet drugs available, it is often difficult to differentiate one from the other, or even to find the right one to suit your needs. Here is a quick guide on whether the diet drug is suitable for you.

There are two broad categories of diet pills, namely over the counter (OTC) and prescription only diet pills. OTC pills are seen as food supplements and are often under less strict or rigorous regulation requirements. The main ingredient in these OTC pills produces properties similar to amphetamine. This works on the basis of suppressing a person’s appetite, or to reduce the amount of fat absorbed by the body.

Because an OTC diet drug is not subject to inspection and labeling procedures by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), these drugs have been known to produce severe side effects, and in some cases, death.

On the other hand, prescription pills are strongly controlled and regulated by the FDA, with studies being done on their effectiveness and the possible side effects experienced before being approved for release to the masses. These prescription drugs include well known brands such as Meridia, Adipex and Tenuate. Such diet pills are aimed at those who are grossly overweight, with a body mass index (BMI) of over 35.

It is often easy for someone trying to lose weight to turn to consuming a certain diet drug in order to obtain the ideal weight. However, these diet drugs, especially prescription pills, are not meant to take the place of a regular diet or a weight loss regime. More importantly, OTC pills carry even higher risks as it is not as stringently monitored. This has allowed manufacturers to produce miracle diet drugs and advertise it as such, without any scientific research or studies to monitor the effects.

Side effects of OTC and prescription pills often include fever, depression, rapid heartbeats, impotence and high blood pressure. It is also common for people to overdose on a diet drug due to the ingredients in OTC diet drugs. This is not to say that you should not use a diet drug, or that diet drugs do not work. A healthy lifestyle and weight will not come about simply by popping pills. It is advisory for you to seek a medical prescription from your doctor, and consume the pills with a healthy diet and regular exercise to see the best benefits.

Lastly, a diet drug is a last solution for individuals who are obese, and not meant for those who are simply looking to shed a few pounds or to fit into a dress. Due to the nature of diet pills, medical advice is strongly encouraged and your progress should be monitored constantly. Do not be tempted to consumer more than the allotted amount, and take note of the side effects that you are experiencing.
